In the mid-1980's came "Liberty," a stirring musical by Don Wyrtzen, which was produced in conjunction with the Statue of Liberty's restoration. I participated in a local performance of "Liberty" and I now use several excerpts from it in my own program. A few years later I was deeply touched by an amazing story on ABC's "20/20." It was about Ed Morris, a Green Beret who served with Special Forces in Vietnam, and his long overdue quest to find the family of his best friend, Bill Bowman, who was killed during the war. I was inspired to write a song and had the honor of presenting it to Ed and his wife, Linda, at their church. We've had an unshakable bond ever since, and they have been an incredible blessing in my life.

"I See America," was born in the 1990's amidst media reports of low morale in the U.S. military. I was saddened to think that our warriors, the very backbone of how and why we live in freedom, were discouraged. I hope the lyrics of this signature song of mine convey what is sincerely in my heart. I believe that God has called me on a mission to combine the elements of faith, family, and freedom into a musical tribute with a special emphasis on our military. I've been blessed over the years to present this program in various ways to veterans, church groups, schools and other venues. One of the most memorable was singing for Medal of Honor recipient, Vernon Baker, at his medical benefit in March of 2005. I've also found a dear friend in Joe Meiners, a D-Day veteran who has graciously shared his experiences. Most recently, I had the opportunity to encourage and pray for my "adopted soldier," SSG Ronny Suggs, while he was in Iraq. Thankfully, he is now safely home. My prayer is that many more of these opportunities will come along - that I might share my faith and music while promoting patriotism and a deeper appreciation for America's troops and veterans......Lord, hear my prayer.
